What to Expect
This high-speed trimaran sailing experience begins in Lorient, a well-known port for offshore racing. After a welcome and safety briefing, you’ll board the ORMA 60 “Sensations,” a former racing trimaran skippered by Alain Gautier’s team. The boat, once known as Foncia, competed in top-level ocean races.
You’ll sail in the waters of southern Brittany, adjusting sails, handling lines, and participating in manoeuvres, depending on your interest and skill level. Speeds can exceed 30 knots (55 km/h or 34 mph), depending on wind conditions. The trimaran is capable of sailing at up to twice the wind speed under the right conditions.
Sailing time varies with the option you choose. The half-day session includes around 2 hours on the water, while the full-day experience can involve longer time under sail, weather permitting. Lunch is included on the full-day format, and private group sessions are available for up to 9 participants.
You’ll be supervised throughout by a team of experienced sailors. No previous experience is required. The boat is stable, fast, and impressive under sail, giving you direct access to a real offshore racing experience. This activity is a rare chance to sail on a 60-foot ORMA trimaran, one of the fastest multihulls ever used in professional racing.
This Lorient sailing adventure combines access, speed, and the reality of racing trimaran performance in a safe setting.
What is a Trimaran ORMA 60
A trimaran ORMA 60 is a high-performance multihull racing boat built for offshore sailing competitions. It measures 18.28 m (60 ft) in length and typically features a central hull and two smaller outrigger hulls (amas) for stability. Designed for speed and agility, ORMA 60 trimarans were used in the Ocean Racing Multihull Association (ORMA) class between the 1990s and early 2000s. Built from lightweight composite materials, they can reach speeds over 30 knots (55 km/h or 34 mph). These boats are equipped with large sails, including a mainsail of around 200 m² (2,150 sq ft), and require skilled handling. Although the ORMA class is no longer active, many trimarans from this era—such as the ex-Foncia—are still used for training, corporate sailing, and public experiences due to their impressive speed and responsive performance.
