The Experience
Pre-Flight Preparation
Your day begins at 9:30 AM with a warm welcome at the Biscarrosse Aerodrome. After meeting your instructor, you’ll suit up in a flight suit and attend a comprehensive briefing. This session covers essential flight maneuvers, including aerial pursuit techniques, relative turns, targeting, and laser firing procedures.
First Mission
Following the briefing, you’ll embark on your first flight, lasting between 45 minutes to an hour. Seated in a dual-control cockpit alongside your instructor, you’ll take off in tandem with another aircraft, maintaining close formation flying. During this flight, you’ll practice basic maneuvers and get accustomed to the aircraft’s handling, setting the stage for the upcoming aerial combat.
Lunch Break
Midday features a group lunch at the aerodrome, providing an opportunity to discuss the morning’s activities and prepare for the afternoon session.
Advanced Combat Training
The afternoon begins with an in-depth lesson on air combat strategies. Topics include visual identification, energy management, and tactical maneuvers. This knowledge is crucial for effective engagement during aerial dogfights.
Second Mission
After the tactical briefing, you’ll undertake your second flight, approximately 30 minutes long. This session focuses on simulated dogfights, where you’ll alternate between offensive and defensive roles. Equipped with laser targeting systems, you’ll aim to “hit” the opposing aircraft. Successful hits trigger smoke effects, adding realism to the encounter.
Debriefing
Upon returning to the ground, a debriefing session will analyze the flight, discussing performance, maneuvers executed, and areas for improvement.
