What to expect
This Champagne vineyards visit starts at 9:00 am from Reims, or slightly later from Épernay or Mareuil-sur-Ay. After a short transfer to the estate, your guide provides your e-bike and a helmet. The tour begins on quiet vineyard paths through the Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne regions.
The first stop is Hautvillers, a key village in Champagne history. Here, you visit the church where Dom Pérignon is buried. Along the way, the ride offers wide views over the hills and vineyards that make this area part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The electric bikes make the route accessible, even with some inclines. A total of 30 km (18.6 mi) is covered at a gentle pace, with plenty of breaks. In case of bad weather, the route is adapted by minibus.
Back at the Clos Corbier estate, you visit the wine cellar. Your guide explains the Champagne-making process from vine to bottle. A tasting session follows, with two Champagnes, a regional red wine, and a glass of Ratafia (a fortified wine made from grape must and spirit). Each tasting is commented on by your guide.
The tour continues with a sit-down lunch featuring regional food. Typical dishes include gougères (cheese-filled pastry), pâté en croûte, and the pink Reims biscuit. These are served with Champagne from the estate. The day ends with return transport to Reims around 4:00 pm (or to Épernay at 3:15 pm).
This experience offers an informative and relaxed way to understand French Champagne vineyards, combining cycling, Champagne tastings in France, and local food traditions.
