What to Expect

Your private vineyard tour begins in Cognac or Angoulême at 9:00. You’ll be welcomed by your guide, who accompanies you throughout the day. The tour is conducted in a private vehicle, offering a comfortable way to explore the region and enjoy tastings without needing to drive.

The day begins with a visit to a working cooperage (except in August), where you’ll learn about the craft of barrel-making. The barrels used for aging cognac are essential to its flavour and structure. This visit provides useful context for understanding the next steps in the production process.

You’ll then continue through the vineyards of Grande Champagne, the top cru of the Cognac region. The guide will explain how the soil and grape varieties—primarily ugni blanc and colombard—shape the final product.

Next, visit two cognac-producing estates. These properties are family-run and located in the heart of the vineyard. You’ll tour the distilleries and ageing cellars, and taste several cognacs alongside local food products. Your guide will provide explanations and translate as needed during the visits.

The village of Segonzac, recognised as the heart of Grande Champagne, is also on the itinerary. The tour blends walking with short drives through scenic vineyard roads, and ends around 18:30 at your starting point.

This private vineyard tour is designed for up to 4 participants. It offers the opportunity to enjoy wine tasting in France in a calm, informative setting.

About Cognac

Cognac is a type of brandy made from white wine, produced in a specific area of southwest France. It must be made from particular grape varieties, mainly ugni blanc, and aged in oak barrels for at least two years. The production follows strict rules set by the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée). Distillation takes place in copper pot stills, using a double distillation method. The ageing process and blending of different eaux-de-vie define the character of each cognac. The region is divided into six crus, with Grande Champagne being the most prized for its ageing potential and aromatic complexity.
